Hello!
I'm Sophie Dufresne, an artist and designer based in Los Angeles. Besides freelancing in design and illustration I create whimsical art and products under the name Sophiequi.
My Story
Before I moved here from Montreal several years ago, I was an engineering major with a love for art, theater, and architecture heading toward a PhD in computational fluid mechanics.
I loved solving problems but yearned for my work to be more visual and expressive. One day a friend said to me, "you have a good eye (and know how to code), why don't you learn Dreamweaver". And I did. It wasn't long before I joined startups and a branding agency, all the while picking up Flash animation and taking interior design classes at UCLA.
After a relatively short stint in architecture drafting and making 3D models, I returned to the internet to focus on user experience (UI/UX) at Yahoo. Fast forward 7 years, I missed making things. So when another friend introduced me to illustration and surface pattern, well, I went for it.
All that to say... it's been a journey, and I'm very versatile because of it.
So whatever your project may be...
